200th Show Celebrations


Youth Flex is celebrating its 200th show on Wednesday November 30th. Past Host and cohost will return to the studio to share in the celebrations. A special award was presented to Funky Tangs Ltd for their committment to youth radio. Guest will include Sandra, Anya, Shyvon, Leah, JoJo, Jamo, Priscilla and Knolis also Carolina from Cayman Aids Foundation will briefing everyone on the activities for World Aids Day in the Cayman Islands. Last Brac Trip before 200th Show

The Flex crew will be broadcasting from Market Place in Tibbetts Square in West End Cayman Brac this Wednesday. This will be the last time the Flex Crew will be in the Brac prior to our 200th show.

Youth Flex 1st Fundraiser (Haunted Forest)

Youth Flex first fundraising event is scheduled for October 31st Halloween night at the Dart Family Park. Admission to Haunted Forest is $5 and part proceeds go to the National Recovery Fund.

National Youth Assembly of the Cayman Islands

Youth Organization are encouraged to nominate their repesentative for the National Youth Assembly.

The criteria for the candidates are as follows:

Be Caymanian between the ages of 10-25
Be able to portray the spirit of your organization
Be able to clearly articulate the concerns of youth in your organization and (district if needed)
Be able to meet monthly and to research topics in your organization and (district if needed)
Be able to serve for at least 12 months

Nomination forms can be emailed to you if you leave your email address.

Social Harmony Youth Programme

The Social Harmony Youth Programme is an initiative of the Department of Youth & Sports with assistance from a SHYP committee of Quincy Brown, Victor Crumbley, Nicosia Lawson, Stuart Wilson and Jeremy Josephs to promote youth talent and civic self help and self-worth amoung youth groups and youth of the Cayman Islands.

Youth Groups are to register with the programme and chose a charity as beneficiary of their event.

Funds will be distributed as follows:

You or Your choice & Your facilitator
Your group social responsibility

Talent 80% Charity 10% Promoting Agency 10%

Responsiblities

Talent will be responsible for: selecting venue, type of event, sale of donation tickets,development of tickets, flyers and posters, making media appearances and media statements with charity, choose charity.

Charities will be responsible for : assisting talent with media statements, provide logo for flyers, tickets and posters, be present at event to recieve proceeds, make media appearances with talent.

Promoting Agency will be responsible for: Producing flyers, tickets and posters, setting up media appearances, distribution of funds raised, produce report of event to talent and charity.

Did you know that the Broad leaf plant leaves were used for sandpaper in years past? It was how the wooden floors of Caymanian homes of yesteryears got their shine. They didn't have any mop n glo then.

Many Broad Leaf plants were destroyed in 1988 by Hurricane Gilbert who brushed south of Grand Cayman leaving trail of destroyed foliage.

Youth Flex 200

Youth Flex is 4 years old and on November 30th will be 200 shows in the books. The 200th show will be sponsored by a local retail giant " Reflections". The 200th show is to reflect on the past host, co-host and shows. We will be giving away 200 prizes and the show promises to be the best ever. The Flex crew will present a special award for Funky Tangs Ltd. for their committment of a $20 gift certificate for every single Youth Flex Show.


Youth Flex first aired on September 26, 2001 with host James Myles and cohost Crystal McField. After 14 weeks the show was hosted by Sandra Catron and cohosted by Anya Rankin

The show was developed to assist in the implementation of the National Youth Policy which was present in Parliament by Hon. Julliana O'Connor Connolly and passed. The slogan on the policy is Youth are the future... Show us the way. The Flex was designed to facilitate this guidance through expression and advocacy.

Road Trip


On October 26th the Flex crew hits the road and heads to East End for the first remote broadcast for Season 14. The Crew will be chatting with the Principal of the Primary School and some youth in the district of East End.

Peace & Social Harmony


Wednesday October 19th is the start of Season 14 and the topic for the first show of the season is " Peace & Social Harmony". It is a topic that the whole Caribbean Region is grampling with and the Flex Crew will be laying out the issues on the roundtable discussion with Pastor Fitz Carter and presenting solutions the way only the Flex can. Culture & Identity


This week on Youth Flex Shyvon & Lea raps with local sociologist Carl Brown on his take of the Caymanian Culture. Also featured on the show is local youth band "Love Culture". This show you will not want to miss.

This topic was first tackled by the Flex back in 2003 when Matthew Hylton was host. He brought a civic component to that show speaking to the Caymans first Governor Mr Athel C Long and Cayman first non- elected Speaker of the House Mrs. Sybil McLaughlin and the first Caymanian Knight Sir Vassel Johnson and the first lady MLa Miss Annie Huldah Bodden and Cayman's first National Hero Mr James Manaoh Bodden.

End Of Summer Brac Get-A-Way

The Flex crew will be hosting a End Of Summer Brac Get-A-Way at the West End Park in Cayman Brac. Look for the photos next week. Flex shirts will soon be in stock and visitors to this site could be able to win shirts. The shirt is designed and printed in the Cayman Islands by CBR, a group of young entreprenuers whose conglomorate attitude ranges for rapping, clothing designs to event coordinating and radio show production. Yes CBR's, Bubblz,M1, Dash are co-producers of the Flex.
You may have noticed how many girls are in the photos on the this website. Back in March and in fact every March since the Flex has been on air there have been a segment called " Female in the Spotlight". March is named Womens Month in the Cayman Islands.

Today's guest is the Miss Teen Contestants and Mr. Joel Francis, the host of the formost listened talk show on Natioanl Radio in the Cayman Islands. Today music selection includes the new track from Stuart Wilson of Love Culture.
Youth Flex and Coco Red Band is putting on the Brac End of summer Get-a- way. The Flex Crew will be hosting a Fun Day at the West End Community Park in the picturesque Cayman Brac.
Joel Francis is the unofficial Ombusman of the Cayman Islands via Talk Today Radio Show. Tune in each and every Wednesday 4-5pm est.

First Post

Welcome to the new Youth Flex website!
Youth flex is heard on Radio Cayman in the Cayman Islands on Wednesdays at 4:00 PM

This show is a joint initative of the Department of Youth & Sports and Radio Cayman. The show first aired when the first Director of Youth & Sports Mr. Charles Branche approved a very enthused Youth Coordinator to go through with the venture, back in September 2001.

The Department of Youth & Sports is located at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex on Olympic Way.
